Messages From The President Of Streetnet And The Invited Guests During The Opening Of The International Council Meeting Held In Guinea Conakry – 25 to 26 Of May 2013

The International Council meeting of StreetNet was held from May 25 to 26, 2013 in Conakry, Guinea. This statutory meeting was organised about two months after the fourth International Congress of StreetNet which was held in Santiago, Chile.

The meeting took place in the hotel Mariador Palace in Conakry. The first step of the ceremony consisted in the presentation of the International Council members present at the meeting.

On the occasion of the official opening ceremony, El Hadj  Amadou Diallo, Secretary General of the National Confederation of Workers of Guinea (CNTG), Oscar Silva, President of StreetNet International and El Hadj Moustapha Ndiaye, Chief of the cabinet, representing the Minister of Labour, all addressed the meeting.

El Hadj Amadou Diallo "highly appreciates the choice of StreetNet for holding the meeting in Guinea. CNTG and StreetNet International are two social organisations whose common mission is to support marginalised workers.” Amadou Diallo urged the Guinean government to heed to the demands of the street vendors who live in very difficult conditions in Guinea.

Oscar Silva, President of StreetNet International thanked the Guinean authorities for agreeing to host the meeting of the Council and stated that StreetNet’s mission is to support fellow workers who are street vendors so that they are recognised as workers and they regain their dignity as human beings. He added, "As workers, we would like to benefit from social protection. We would like your support at the International Labour Conference of the ILO. "

El Hadj Moustapha Ndiaye, Chief of the cabinet, representing the Minister of Labour of Guinea thanked StreetNet for the invitation and conveyed the warm greetings of the Minister to members of the International Council. This is what he said concerning StreetNet "Your mission is noble and the purpose of your organisation is supported through the framework of Decent Work. I encourage StreetNet for its initiative." The representative of the Minister of Labour ended his message by declaring the works of this meeting open.
