Protestors stage `Gangnam-style` dance performance to end evictions in Cambodia

Starting about 8:00 AM this morning, between 350-400 representatives from communities, unions, associations, grassroot groups & NGOs gathered in front of the National Assembly to form a 200 meter "human chain" while wearing petition t shirts with 11,202 thumbprints collected from 24 provinces on International HR Day in Cambodia. All petition t -shirts were marked with key messages relating to land, labor, human rights & democracy.

STREETNET visit to Tunisia - Memorandum of understanding

Meeting at the Annex headquarter of UGTT with the delegation of StreetNet, Leaders of the Street Vendors Union, leaders of UGTT, UNI-AFRICA MENA and PSI.Following the approval of the International Council of StreetNet, a group of three women, members of affiliated organisations in West African French countries, together with the organiser of StreetNet for the same region, paid a working visit to Tunisia from 27th of August to 1st of September 2012.

The program developed in collaboration with representatives of UNI-AFRICA MENA (Uniglobal Network International, Coordination Middle East and North Africa) and ISP (International Public Service) permitted the meeting and discussion with several officials and particularly the Secretary General of UGTT, the Women’s committees of UGTT, UNI-AFRICAMENA and ISP, and other organisations and associations defending women’s rights and human rights as well as the independent union of street vendors and a representative of the African Development Bank.

Malawi Union For Informal Sector(MUFIS) Marches in Solidarity for International Street Vendors Day

Street vendors day articleMalawi Union for Informal Sector with its membership and partners joined their friends in the world for the first time celebrating International Street Vendors Day in style under the theme of street vendors are workers with the same right to organisation, representation and social protection as other workers. They marched a distance of one kilometer to present petition to Chief Executive Officer of the City Council of Blantyre while songs were sung louder and clear. The petition was presented to the council and after that the council arranged a place in the Mayor`s Chamber where they could hear contains of the petition and it was read by president as follows:

KENASVIT members celebrates International Street Vendors Day by launching a clean-up campaign KENASVIT affiliates celebrated International Street Vendors Day by launching a massive clean- up campaign. Over a hundred informal workers and traders cleaned up the streets and their trading areas. They also took the opportunity to bring awareness to their demands and bring awareness of their plight with local authorities.

StreetNet International

StreetNet International is an alliance of street vendors. It was launched in Durban, South Africa, in November 2002.

Membership-based organizations (unions, co-operatives or associations) directly organizing street vendors, market vendors and/or hawkers among their members, are entitled to affiliate to StreetNet International.

The aim of StreetNet is to promote the exchange of information and ideas on critical issues facing street vendors, market vendors and hawkers (i.e. mobile vendors) and on practical organizing and advocacy strategies
