StreetNet Regional Meeting of West and Central Africa in Togo
From 29th July 2024 to 1st August 2024, Streetnet International’s affiliates from West and Central Africa met for a regional meeting in Lome- Togo, hosted by FAINATRASIT( Faîtière Nationale des Travailleurs du Secteur Informel du Togo). The meeting was attended by around forty members of its affiliated from Benin, Burkina Faso, Burundi, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ghana, Guinea, Liberia, Niger, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, Sierra Leone and Togo.

The Zimbabwean government evicts informal economy workers in a new wave of violence against its citizens
Evictions of informal traders on a mass scale are happening in various provinces. Our affiliate ZCIEA is organizing against this wave of state violence. StreetNet calls for an immediate stop to all evictions and for equitable negotiations.

Defending the rights of informal economy workers with disabilities: the case of UGSEIN in Niger
People with disabilities work in the informal economy, too. We were recently in Niger to discover the work of our affiliate UGSEIN who organizes over 500 workers with physical disabilities.
Organizing women street vendors in Burkina Faso
Women street vendors in Burkina Faso constitute the majority of workers in our sector. Our affiliate SYNAVFL organizes fruit and vegetable vendors across the country. We visited them in July 2023, and we learned more about their work on the ground.
