A tripartite meeting of experts on the facilitation of the transition from the informal to the formal economy is taking place this week in preparations for the meeting (2014) of the International Labour Conference, with a view to making a recommendation. In this regard, the President of StreetNet International, Oscar Silva together with representatives from WIEGO and SEWA, are working hard to discuss with representatives of governments, employers and workers, the social inclusion and employment of workers in the informal economy through transition from informality to formality.
In this meeting is discussing labor rights of the sector, such as the right to full representation, the right to collective bargaining, the right to access to health, and a dignified retirement etc. It should be noted that for the first time in the history of the ILO an informal economy sector representative is participating in an expert commission. According to our President, discussions are intense, and not easy with business, but some government representatives are supporting them. However, work is still ongoing and they do not have definitive results at this stage.
