On the 10-11 July, the Self-Employed and Commercial Sector Workers union conducted training based on ‘’employed women in the informal sector of labor market’’.
The seminar was supported by International organisation ‘’StreetNet’’. It attended by women who are employed in the informal Economy from Zugdidi, Batumi, Telavi, Kutaisi and Tbilisi.
The seminar was led by the GTUC vice-president, womens committee, Chairman Eter Matureli, Self-employed and Commercial sector workers union’s president Miranda Mandaria, who discussed labor rights according national legislation and labor code. Eter Matureli also reviewed gender issues and international conventions.
Expert Nino Nakeuri discussed the meaning of collective agreement and also reviewed some collective agreements which was achieved by Georgian Trade Unions Confederation.
Training was very interesting as it was in a discussion form, so members could express their opinion. They talked about their difficult conditions in the informal sector of labor market in their region and it is very sad that in 21st century women still face lots of problems, specially in informal economy. It’s not only violation of labor rights, but also a violation of fundamental human rights.
We hope that with the support of StreetNet, we will be able to raise awareness of employed women about their labor rights as its very important to know your rights to help yourself.
