NEST has organised a three day training workshop on "Women leadership development training " in Kathmandu. The aim was to Enhance the leadership skills of Women Street Vendors, share and discuss the Code of Conduct on Violence against women and strategise to expand membership.
There were 44 participants. Among them, 3 were male and 41 were female. The sessions were facilitated by Cde. Binda Pandey – Member of ILO Governing body and GEFONT planning Commission, Cde. Pemba Lama -Deputy Secreatary General GEFONT, Cde. Bidur Karki -GEFONT Secretary,Education Department, Cde. Ramesh Mainali -GEFONT Education Department and Cde. Narayan Neupane -President of NEST on Leadership-its quality, Roles & responsibilities of leaders,organisation and its characteristics,Union Management ,Office Management ,Finance Management, Organising strategy, Trade Union Rights and roles of Committee members.
During the training Code of conduct violence against women which was developed by 5th National women conference held on March 08 and 09 2013 where 700 women delegates had participated.
During these Three days training participants identified the problems of Street Vendors and also developed a future work plan focusing on membership expansion
The work plan for the next 6 months are as follows :
- Identity the new workplace and committee formation
- Membership expansion
- Women leadership training in districts
- Submit the demands paper to local government.
- Celebration of May day in district
- Conduct campaign on violence against women
- Campaign to incorporate the issues of Street venders in new constitution and new labour law.
- Mass rally to pressure Government
- Women Leadership training
The training of Kathmandu was inaugurated by Cde. Umesh Upadhyaya Secretary General of GEFONT. Inaugurating the Training Cde. Upadhyaya said, " Women workforce is about 50 to 52% and their membership in TU is so low. We need to increase women membership in TU. Knowledge which you will gain during this three days, will put into practice for the welfare of Street vendor workers. "
GEFONT Vice President /President GEFONT women committee Cde. Bina Shrestha and Cde. Maya Gurung Secretary NEST also addressed this in the Inaugural session.
