Resolution 26: Anticipation and warning of health problems

NOTING:

1. That, because of the insecure conditions in which vendors perform their work activities, plus the fact that they do not have proper social protection in health, they have been facing infectious-contagious diseases such as swine influenza (H1N1), tuberculosis, etc.
2. That municipal violence against sellers / vendors in the form of evictions, confiscation of goods, etc. also constitutes a psychosocial public health problem.
3. That States have the obligation to develop public health systems sensitive to the problems of workers regardless of their status.
4. That in Peru and the world in general, the fact that street vendors, especially women, are victims of violence, lack access to quality health services, is a task that still presents challenges.
5. That violence (evictions, confiscation, etc.) produce serious effects more on the reproductive health of women: chronic pelvic pain, vaginal discharge, sexual dysfunction and premenstrual problems, poor or no prenatal gynecological care, on the other hand, there is detection of TB and HIV / AIDS.

HEREBY RESOLVES:

1. StreetNet should join the Campaign for Universal Health Insurance in those countries where these proposals are being discussed with affiliates.
2. StreetNet shall propose to governments, among other matters, that they implement integrated and multi-sectoral policies that guarantee the correct and appropriate attention to the mental and physical health of women, who suffer as a result of the municipal violence (evictions).
3. StreetNet to lobby the Governments of countries, that they should develop policies to stop municipal violence against street vendors, eliminate existing barriers and adopt regulatory measures to ensure vendors, especially women, a life free from violence, able to enjoy the highest level of physical and mental health.
4. StreetNet with the support of, and / or agreements with, partner organizations of vendors / hawkers, will conduct courses in each member country – research workshops (study) on the health problems that street vendors suffer as a result of municipal violence (evictions, confiscation, etc.).
5. StreetNet, in each country where it has members, will conduct prediction and screening programs for diseases like TB and HIV / AIDS; this proposal will require the technical and financial support of governments and international cooperation institutions.
