The international commemoration of Decent Work, finds Venezuela with the absence of political will to meet basic requirements

On October 7th, workers around the world and their unions commemorate the Day of Decent Work. In Venezuela we are protesting outside the Public Affairs Ministry to deliver a document to the Attorney General of the Republic, Mrs. LUISA ORGTEGA DIAZ, containing complaints and demands from workers dissenting against the growth of unemployment, and asking for social inclusion, equality of opportunity and treatment on the social security systems available to the poor, with adequate access to health and sufficient retirement funds, for the full enjoyment of basic labor rights, freedom of association, right to collective bargaining and to strike and use democratic dialogue as an instrument of peace and progress. We call for our rights of inclusion and recognition for independent workers in the informal economy, considering it is the day to hold governments firmly to account and demand that they meet the Decent Work Agenda of the International Labour Organization (ILO) adopted in 1998 and ratified by the Employment Pact, approved unanimously by the International Labour Conference on June 19, 2009.

• We demand the national government reach a turning point in its economic and social policy.
• We call for the unity of the workers and their leaders, beyond ideological differences.
• We endorse the Decent Work Agenda of the ILO and demand that the government be part of a plan to rectify economic policy.
• Venezuelan workers demand decent, stable and well-paid jobs, we need to have a social security system functioning with good health services,
• That government fights inflation effectively so that wages and benefits do not continue deteriorating.
• We demand the immediate review of the expired collective agreements and the cessation of the criminalization of protest with a general amnesty for workers and union leaders on trial.
• We advocate for national reconciliation and assume that social dialogue is the appropriate means of achieving coexistence agreements guaranteeing civilized and equitable economic growth.
• We want to progress with justice, equality and fairness, a society of citizens with decent work.
